The Forgotten.

Okay, so this has been on my chest for awhile.

You ever feel forgotten? I mean like really forgotten. Not like a "Oh my friend forgot to call me for that movie night", or a "He forgot where our first kiss was.", I mean , FORGOTTEN.

I want to speak for myself here, and myself only. However, I'm sure that a few of my buddies feel this as well.

I've been acting for more than 20 years. Let me say that again, I've been acting for TWENTY YEARS. It's crazy when I think about it. I feel blessed and can't express my thanks to God enough for the amazing career He has given me. That being said, lately I have had some....feelings. I've run into a couple of young guys recently that have, for lack of a better term, disrespected my career. These guys usually root their argument with the statement that I am a "has-been". Usually I brush that kinda thing off. But lately, it has hit home a bit.

I remember the good ol' days. New York. Limo to and from set everyday. Fan Mail. Being escorted by security everywhere. I DID that. At the age of FOUR. That kind of life is nothing new to me, that is for sure. Now, I'm not saying this with a bragging nature, I just want you to know, I've had that. So to hear these people all of a sudden tell me how washed up I am, hurts. And at the same time, it's highly confusing. In basically EVERY profession, the apprentice recognizes and respects the teacher. Sadly, this way of life has begun it's decline in the world of acting. Especially where young Black males are concerned. Tearing each other down has become commonplace, and it seems always necessary to step on someone to reach a higher level nowadays. I hate it. I grew up watching a handful of Black actors. Allen Payne, Khalil Kain, & Denzel Washington were the ones I looked up to. Guys like Tahj Mowry, Marc John Jefferies, Jeff Wood, Bryan Hearne, Corbin Bleu, Khleo Thomas, and Marcus Paulk were my peers. I loved growing up in that era. It was honestly to date, the best time to be a young Black actor. We all thrived back then. And then slowly, we started to fade.

Some experienced this more than others. For a few, it was a choice. For others, it wasn't. Regardless of if you chose to get out of the spotlight, or if the spotlight just found someone else, you missed it. I missed it. Nothing can replace the feeling I get when I'm on set. Nothing. I started out an actor, and I will always be one. So imagine the pain I feel when some say, "Your time is over". Fresh faces and low pay grades rule the screens now. If you can be bought, you can be a star. No, I'm not as recognized as some of my peers. No I don't wait for projects to land in my lap. I still have to WORK. Because this is my JOB. And what makes me dangerous for these fame hungry, no talent newbies, is that my job is also my PASSION. When those two things are put together, it makes all the difference.

So in short I guess I'm saying don't count some of us out. Tahj is still an amazing talent, and will forever be the most recognizeable "Smart Guy". MP is a good rapper, and is in a George Lucas project next year. Khleo is also in music, and keeps giving us roles to remember him in. Corbin is....Corbin. lol. No explanation needed. Basically, we are all still here. The WORKING actors. The ones who put this craft on our BACKS when most can't even lift the hammer. We won't stop. We will die making sure we are remembered, not forgotten. BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY.

So next time you see someone you think is a "has-been" say he's working on something, don't think about the negative response everybody seems trained to say. Congratulate him or her for paving the way. Thank them for sticking in the game, even when it's barely paying the bills. And most importantly, never EVER forget them. Because we haven't forgotten you.

Been Awhile.

I recently saw The Justice League on GimmeMo. Maybe you guys started the crew for fun as a sort of running joke after your breakups and it sorta evolved from there. I’m 22, never had a boyfriend (my family believes in high school education before play) but I have been hurt by a guy. I think it’s admirable that you all have started a group that looks out for one another, encourages one another to give their best in the workplace, community and relationships and to “save the world one woman at a time”…lol. I think it encourages women not to lower their standards but to wait because there is a guy out there for them that is intelligent, caring, loving and will treat them right. It’s cool what you guys are doing. It gives women hope and encourages handwork, teamwork, respect, accountability and a sense of community among young folks. Keep up the good work! I want to wish you and your crew all the best in all of your future endeavors.

I Am Young.

One day I got into an argument wit my mom, and she asked me, why do I do the things that I do....and I couldnt give her a reason...it was like i was speechless, not able to give her one thought as to why I cant get any A's or, why I stay out so late, or why I love girls wit amazing booty's, and if they're smart thats cool...doode!...I couldn't give her nothing....so I sat and thought it out and it hit me.

Craziness!!!

Hey everyone!

So "Up All Night" comes out tomorrow, ands for some reason, I'm sad. Everything is going soooooo fast! I don't want this ride to ever end. It seems like yesterday that I came up with this concept for a mixtape, and now I am one week away from it's release.

In between acting, and writing screenplays, I write spoken word poetry. As a thank you to my supporters, you will get some poetry along with the mixtape as bonus content. Also, check back here for updates and videos and poetry and more! The week leading up to the release will be full of good stuff. =]

I didn't expect to post everyday, but this is amazing!

Within 24 hours of "Light Up" being released, it has hit #1 on the tweetmysong.com charts! I want to thank you all for your support. It means a lot and it erases any doubts I have about my music being accepted by this industry.

All I can say is, you think this track was hot? Not only is this mixtape blazin hot, but what till you see what I have in store for my next mixtape ;)

"Light Up"

Hello all. Wow, what a journey this has been. It’s been a while since I did any music. It has been even longer that I did any music that was just me. I cant say that it was easy to hop back into-it wasn’t. But I received so much love and encouragement from friends and family, that I felt like I would be letting more than just myself down, if I didn’t pursue music once again.

One thing I want to get off my chest is this: This is in no way, shape or form, a diss to Drake. He put out a (honest opinion) tolerable hip-hop-ish album that I will be listening to for years to come. I wanted to include beats from his new album exclusively because I felt like everybody was going to love his album, that it was going to be the hot new ish on the block. So why not reinvent something fresh, hot and new? Why take a smorgasbord of songs that nobody is listening to and turn them into worthy experiments of mine? No need. No, instead I would take what everybody is calling the “best”, and make it “better”. This is how “You’re Welcome” was born.

You’re Welcome isn’t just a play of words of Drakes album title. It also serves as an invitation into this side of my life. A lot of you may only know me as an actor. I’ve been a lyricist just as long. I didn’t say the word “rapper” on purpose. Some people, were born rappers. I believe I was born a poet. Over the years, I have evolved into a rapper. I am still learning, and honing my craft.

I didn’t want to take Drake’s whole album, and give it a do-over. Honestly, it was just plain unnecessary. So I took five of my favorites. Mixtapes are usually longer, I know. But for this first dive back into the pool of rap, I decided doing only one type of stroke was all I needed to get to the deep end of the pool (metaphor! Lol). So I gave you guys, the audience, just a taste of what’s to come on future projects. I will be doing a full fledged mixtape due out in the heart of the fall, and if all goes well - an album may be on the horizon. =]

So welcome to the start of a new journey. A longer, and more rewarding journey. Years from now you could be saying, “Wow, I remember his first mixtape….it was pretty good, and he’s actually a lot better than he was back then.”…..at least that’s what I hope you’ll say. So this is me, not claiming to be the best. I’ll let you be the judge of that. And if you wanna thank me, don’t worry about doing it now, or later, or at all for that matter. I’ve already said “You’re Welcome”.

To my boy J-Dub, for being such a help in the creation of this mixtape. You and Comodity are a big reason why I am back in the game, thank u for all your help. I couldn't have done this without you.

Lastly, thank you to the fans. You guys are what makes or breaks a person in this industry, and I am thankful to have this whole idea of a mixtape be so well received.
